Poster sessions are an integral part of almost every scientific conference. Their purpose is to highlight research results, visualise them and stimulate discussion. To draw your audience in, you need a crystal-clear message, a text format optimized for best legibility, well-chosen graphics and above all, a convincing layout for a printed or digital format.

Basic principles of graphic design and layout technique will help you to present your research visually well-organised and eye-catching. Workshop Part 1 will equip you with both the concepts and the practical creative skills to compellingly design your own posters. One week later you will have the opportunity to present your poster drafts to receive detailed feedback as well as to get useful tips how to further improve and finalise your academic poster.

Course Goals:

• learn how to apply basic design principles to visualise and present research contents
• learn to effectively conceptualise and design academic posters

The course material includes handouts and layout-templates according to Corporate Design.

Birgit Lukowski works as a communication designer and lecturer. She has extensive experience in teaching visual communication and presentation techniques in various academic contexts.
Her workshop concepts focus on practice-orientated teaching and training of creative skills to present research content convincingly and audience-oriented.
