Impostor Syndrome Workshop

Impostor Syndrome describes the feeling of constant self-doubt about one’s own competence
and performance. It includes the feeling of being an intellectual fraud and in danger of being
exposed at any moment, despite their objective success. This concept is mainly described for
high-achieving people. It often affects people who do not attribute or recognize success due
to their own achievements and abilities.

Course Components:

The workshop includes both a prepared presentation and interactive methods (small group
work). Practical exercises are designed to encourage the participants’ self-reflection. The group
format includes a trussul sharing, constructive feedback and aims at strengthening the self-
confidence of the participants. Attention is paid to gender-sensitive language.

Course Goals:

  • Getting to know impostor phenomenon and its characteristics
  • Learn explanatory approaches
  • Differentiate from and compare to mental health
  • Learn strategies to strengthen self-esteem and one’s own capabilities

Trainer: Dr. Simone Freitag (www.simonefreitag.com)

Dr. Simone Freitag is an experienced psychologist with a specialization in health psychology. Her professional career
includes work as a research associate at institutions such as the University of Greifswald, the Robert Koch Institute, and
the public health policy sector in Berlin. She has extensive expertise in the academic field, including the planning and
management of research projects, scientific publications, research proposals and university teaching. She also works
as a coach and trainer, advising academics on strategic career planning, application preparations, career changes, work
organization and methodological questions. As a trainer, she facilitates workshops on topics such as mentoring, mental
health, self-sabotage, strengths analysis and career development.
